Kate received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Alabama and her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Georgia State University. She is is an Associate Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia (#APC008063) and a Nationally Certified Counselor. As someone who spent time in therapy herself, Kate understands how intimidating, yet freeing and helpful, it can be to see a therapist. Kate’s goal is to connect personally with each client so that the two of them can work collaboratively to identify problems and goals and create a plan for treatment. She believes that you are the expert on your life and your goals—it’s Kate’s job to provide the help, insight, and encouragement you need to get there. While Kate utilizes an integrative approach, she predominantly utilizes therapeutic interventions from Cognitive Behavioral-Therapy (CBT) and Existential Therapy. The goal of CBT interventions is to identify the negative thought patterns and the underlying beliefs causing difficult emotional experiences such as anxiety or depression, replacing them with more adaptive and functional thoughts and coping skills. The existential components of Kate’s therapeutic approach involve facilitating self-exploration of how each client understands the world around them and their place in it, allowing them to identify what it looks like to them to live meaningfully and intentionally.
